Market day is a very dangerous day.....

My first saturday as a free man, and saturday = markets
= tonnes of outstanding produce
= big problems for my monthly budget

like a lady in a shoe store, the young foreign chef flitted from market to market, stall to stall, in dizzying whirlwind of mispronounced verbs and bulging grocery bags.....

Seriously, I walked up the stairs to my apartment wondering "what the hell just happened?" ..... There was a length of chorizo over my shoulder, a loaf of bread under my arm, bags of seafood, fruit, veges, and donuts (believe it - drenched in anise liquor), hanging precariously off each finger.
Problem has been eating it all! Cooked my heart out yesterday - still eating the leftovers now while I cook another batch up. Working on the carabinero - like a massive red prawn. You can't really tell but this bad boy was about ten inches long - who could resist that? I couldn't, but at 62 bucks a kilo I paid for it. No doubt. Should be good - figs are just coming out of season but I still snared a few......see how we go..........
Not a bad combo: figs, cherry tomato and giant red shrimp! Yum!
Wanted to snare some summer berries as well but I reckon a few more hits to the wallet and i'd be performing credit-card CPR.
Besides the markets it has been rather a dull week - overcast and no swell (not happy jan) - no doubt once I start working next week the waves will return. Sons of b####es.

p.S I just remembered what my humorous observation was for the week: I was walking through the book market yesterday and apart from the miniature keyring version of Don Quixote, the only title that caught my eye was Porno Terrorismo. Do I need to translate?

  1. Sounds like your holidays are coming along nicely, shame about the swell - have you seen a synoptic chart of Tas today? - yew, even I was excited for the surfers... I do think that those scallops look great, and the pork ribs (uhuh, yeah baby)... enjoy x
